Velo Thailand – the tour company and bike shop that was started with a real love for bikes.
The beginning of Velo Thailand came in 2003 when Thagoon Laokosakul (Ae to his friends) started a small bicycle touring company near the place where he grew up in the west of Bangkok. His unique day and night tours through Rattanakosin revealed an area of the city previously known by very few people.
On the 19th of September 2006 Thagoon experimented by driving his pickup truck with bikes loaded on top around the Khao san road area with a sign advertising his bike tours. To his surprise many people were interested in his tours and signed up for the inaugural ride the next day. Unfortunately the next day, September 20th 2006, Bangkok was in a state of emergency due to a political coup and the ride was canceled. Undaunted by the incident, Thagoon seized the opportunity that existed for a bicycle shop specializing in bicycle tours for tourists around the Khao san area.
Velo Thailand was born on the 1st of November 2006 at 88 Samsen soi 2 near the backpacker area of Khao san. The routes of the various tours are on the local trails, community paths, and small side streets which lead to beautiful destinations such as Wat Arun (temple of the dawn), Wat Pho, and the flower market.
Velo Thailand is the first company to introduce night riding tours in Thailand. Velo Thailand also offers day rides that take riders through small lanes that have little to no motor vehicle traffic so people can enjoy the sights. Apart from city tours Velo Thailand also offers mountain bike rides in the beautiful countryside all year long. In addition to organizing bicycle tours ad renting bikes, the Velo Thailand shop also does repairs on all makes and models of bicycles.
